Trinity Lutheran School Families and Supporters,
The email I am sharing with you is from the Iowa Association of Christian Schools. It is an opportunity to send your state legislator an already prepared email regarding School Choice. Read the explanation provided by the Iowa Association of Christian Schools to better understand that we are not asking to take away funding from the public schools, but rather make education at a Christian school affordable to everyone who wants to enroll and provide other benefits for all families.
As always, it is up to you whether or not you choose to hit “send a message.” If you do support proposed legislation for school choice, please forward this email to your family and friends.

It isn’t too late! Please read below and email your Senator, Representative, and the Governor today!
Gov. Reynolds has made school choice one of her top priorities this year but the legislature has yet to pass meaningful improvements to private school choice in Iowa. They are poised to pass an additional “free” option for parents in the form of charter schools but ESA and tax credit discussions have been slow-going.
We had an alert like this in January and the Iowa Senate heard you and passed meaningful school choice. The Iowa House has yet to take it up. We need your help in making sure that the benefits of school choice can reach as many Iowa parents as possible. To serve all parents, the advantages of a school choice program must extend beyond public schools. We can’t exclude the private schools that will contribute to its success.
This can be done in many ways. Here are a few examples:
- Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) would provide a deposit of funds into an account parents could use for private school tuition, curriculum, fees, and other education-related expenses. This is the single best way to empower parents and students to create an education plan that best meets their unique needs.
- Iowa’s current School Tuition Organization tax credit program helps raise private money for scholarships to attend a nonpublic school. The legislature should remove the cap and increase the donation percentage to be used as a credit on state income taxes.
- The tuition and textbook tax credit program could be made refundable so it’s available to all parents and increased to keep up with the rising costs of education.
Please send a message to your legislators in support of parental choice in education. Please take a minute or two to use your own words and tell your own personal story. Your email will go to your Representative and your Senator along with Governor Reynolds. It makes a huge difference. Thanks for your help.
