Mueller’s Message: Fresh Start

November 1, 2018

The second quarter grade books have no scores in them and Power School shows no recorded homework assignments or tests.  So it is as we begin a new quarter, everyone has a clean slate, and in a very real sense gets to start again.  Yes, what happened in first quarter matters; it matters a lot, but regardless of how we did in Quarter 1, the beginning of the second quarter is an opportunity to improve our effort and thus our performance.

As we begin our second lap of the school year I think about how we can always start fresh in life every time we go to the cross of Jesus Christ.  It is there we receive forgiveness for our poor performance in life (sin) and get a clean slate and a chance to begin again.   The Bible tells us, “If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins…” (1 John 1:9) and “As far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).  This is really good news; we get to start fresh!

And while God does want us to live a life that is truly pleasing to Him, it is the “performance” of Jesus on the cross and in His resurrection that enables us to live a life that brings Him glory.
