Mueller’s Message- Education Savings Accounts (ESA)

Having your son or daughter enrolled in Trinity Lutheran School is an important investment that you are making in the life of your child.  It is a privilege to work alongside you in “training up your child in the way that he should go” (Proverbs 22:6).

Trinity is a member of the Iowa Association of Christian Schools (IACS).  IACS is vital in supporting legislation that benefits Christian schools and families that send their children to faith based schools.  Help for your financial investment in the education of your child may be on the way, and you can help make this a reality by taking a moment to read the e-mail below that I received today.  Then take a moment to contact your state senator. (See below.) Our lobbyist has said repeatedly that our state senators and representatives take it seriously when they get e-mails from their constituents and that they do make a difference!

Mark Mueller

A bill creating Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) for Iowa families who choose an education option other than their local public school has passed out of committee and is now eligible for debate on the Senate floor.  The bill, SF 547, was amended in committee to include students with special needs, disabilities, and families denied open enrollment.  Education savings grants offered through this program could be used for public or private education options including public school tuition outside the resident district, private school tuition, online education, among other authorized expenses.  The bill, in its current form, provides ~$4,00 plus additional funding depending on the need.

We support this bill as a way to offer educational options to as many parents as possible.  Please take a couple of minutes and email your Senator right now, tell him/her why you support advancing school choice legislation like this, and ask for a yes vote on ESAs for Iowans.

This bill is a huge step in the right direction to meet the needs of students with the greatest need.  Combined with private scholarship dollars, we believe this will go a long way toward reaching our goal of offering every Iowa family the educational vehicle best suited to their child.  We are also working on our other priorities too so make sure you stay tuned as the legislative session continues to unfold.  Thanks, in advance, for taking the time to engage your Senator today!
